For all of a week, I thought Deltron 3030’s Event II was my favorite piece of hip-hop of the year, and don’t get me wrong, it’s really good, but Rekcahdam’s Space Time Capsule sneaks in to steal the title. Maybe it’s partly because I’ve met Roger, but the incredibly smooth flow, earnest lyrics and goofy skits just make this an incredibly well-rounded and excellent hip-hop album.
There’s even a skit that includes a sketch of “Major Tom”. What’s not to love? I won’t spoil the ending of the album, but it’s perfect. Don’t rush to it, take your time, listen to it the whole way through.
Here’s a cool idea from Bleep: they had their staff pick the 100 best tracks from the year 2012 and put them together in a compilation for you to buy in MP3/WAV/FLAC.
The team have picked the best in all styles of music, from house music and techno through to the the more experimental spheres of electronic music and indie / alternative rock.
I’m almost halfway through listening to the whole thing and there are some really excellent tracks in there, a lot of stuff that’s completely new to me. Wow, that was AMAZING. Highly, highly recommended.
Sure, it’s $45 for the MP3 version, but that’s half the price of an iTunes or Amazon download. HALF THE PRICE. Get on this, it’s a fascinating tour through 2012 in music and it’s only available until February 6th!
