From Okadada sometime last year, a collab with DJ WILDPARTY. Sorry there isn’t a way to listen + preview, but trust me, it’s worth taking the time to download it. Funky, soulful and smooth.

It’s easy to dismiss Nanoloop for iOS as a toy, it’s fun and easy to make some cool sounds in, but you rarely see it used as an instrument. In Characters, sylcmyk takes this $2.99 app and puts it through its paces alongside a piano, a keyboard and a bevvy of samples generating a whole different breed of electronic funk.
p.s. I am also adding this to the “Collection of Artist’s Descriptions I love”
The product of too much Sega Genesis, un-quantized midis from Kirby, performing Liszt’s cadenzas and listening to Prince’s falsettos.

Bonde do Rolê’s much-awaited album Tropicalbacanal is up on the Mad Decent SoundCloud for everyone to listen to.
No longer holding on to the straight funk-carioca aesthetic of With Lasers (Rdio, Spotify), Tropicalbacanal is exactly that, a huge tropical party with music from all over Brazil. Excuse me while I listen to this for a whole week.
Mash & Munkee - We Like It Like That
You know that funk? The one like they used to make, that full sound, horns blazin’, bass guitar setting that groove and good vibes all around? I mean, me neither, I wasn’t alive when that funk was current, but here’s some funk that fits that description. I think this might actually fit into nu-funk, whatever the hell that is. Have I said the word “funk” enough yet? Why aren’t you listening? What’s wrong with you? Is your soul missing that funk? Are you in a funk? Funk funk funk funk funk?
Equal parts, funk, hip-hop beats and all electronic goodness, STRAND makes electronic soul music (ok, maybe only my soul requires electronic music?). From the drifting, almost 1979ish feeling AUSTERIDAD conveys to the harder beats of £¥$, I’m pretty sure STRAND covers the whole spectrum.
I’ve actually been looking for something like this for a while. What I can only really call chipmusic funk, DKSTR puts out his first paid release EVER and knocks it out of the ballpark. Like he says, he’s not in the habit of having people pay for his music, but all the funds go to pressing Tijuana Bible on vinyl.

George & Jonathan - Beautiful Lifestyle
If George & Jonathan aren’t proof that awesome friends make even more awesome music, I’m not entirely sure what is. They are quite literally on a roll, ringing in the holidays with this Beautiful Lifestyle, on the heels of last year’s still incredibly fresh Best Christmas which itself was right behind The Best Music (both made with a tracker called PxTone).
G&J are purveyors of the finest funk sounds, hands down.
Ethan Goldhammer and S. Burke - In the Pocket (Rhodes and Moog Light Paint)
A brilliant audiovisual piece from a while back, figured I would share as I stumbled on to it again today.
