Minikomi - Morning Mix 31/12/12
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Enjoy this morning mix that Minikomi dropped on the last day of last year. Chill jams for yo bad self.
You may know Minikomi from the Metrodub microlabel, which provides all sorts of fine, dubby grooves.
The Skints - On A Mission (Katy B cover)
Happy Friday! Excellent dub/ska cover of the Katy B dubstep hit by The Skints.
Here’s another The Skints track while I’m at it.
Dub FX & Fernquest - Take me Away
First of all: this blog reached 100 followers! Thanks! I hope you listen to and enjoy the music I’m posting here, I certainly enjoy telling others about it!
Dub FX is a street performer and amazing loop beatboxer from Melbourne, Australia. He’s quite the avid traveler and prolific musician although usually stays in the dub, d’n’b, reggae, hip-hop and dubstep (old school, not Skrillstep) genres. “Take me Away“‘s vocals are provided by Fernquest, an MC from South Wales (if you’ve never encountered this style of hip-hop vocals, it’s pretty typical of the UK scene).
This video where he describes how me plays his sounds is both an amazing song and completely fascinating.
You should also check out Dub FX’s album Everythinks A Ripple.
Bonus: Dub FX, Mahesh Vinayakram and CAde jamming out on a roof for the Urban Beat Project.
Henry Homesweet - Live-Mode #2
It’s hard to think of a nicer, more soft-spoken, more talented individual than Henry Homesweet. For a while, he has been producing these videos of him playing around with an assortment of gear in his basement or in his out-house (does it mean something else across the pond? not sure), this latest series focuses on some experiments with hardware, I think he’s syncing the 2 GBAs to the Roland TR-808 via that box with the LEDs and 4 big blue buttons. Don’t miss anything Henry Homesweet does, the man is brilliant in the studio and on-stage. Oh, here’s the first video in the series.
Bonus: His latest full album “Enter 5D” is available to stream on his SoundCloud
Completely unclear why this isn’t available from ???’s Bandcamp, but it doesn’t really matter, these 2 30 minute mixes are incredible no matter how they’re delivered. Side A is more delicious dub from a man with an already proven record for it and side B contains some bass-heavy hip-hop inspired beats.
p.s. if anyone knows the actual name for this release, please let me know so I can correct it!
This one is a little all over the place, I would care more if it weren’t for the excellent bass sounds. Don’t let the cutesy album art fool you, there’s some excellent composition hidden amongst those squarewaves.
